Back to where we started is a good place to have another look at the facade of the house and its seventeenth century wrought iron gates. Then take a wander into the meadow on the opposite side of the war memorial green and over to the river Shep at the southern end. The meadow is becoming a sanctuary of wild local flora and in the chalk stream we are trying to encourage the return of trout and other wildlife. The meadow is protected by Restrictive Covenants to the National Trust.
