Here
we have snowdrops and hellebores in the winter and then spurges, lilac,
poppies and lilies to carry on into the summer. The framework is of seventy
year old sweet smelling syringa. In one corner we try to find plants with
either yellow leaves or yellow flowers, and nearbye a gurgle of water
splashes in a hollow of dwarf box. A giant box has been pruned into elegant
shapes in the Japanese style. An elm still stands sentinel in one corner,
the survivor of the dreaded Dutch Elm disease.
